Compostability: Compost is organic matter that has biodegraded as fast as possible, under controlled conditions. The decomposition process is aided by shredding the plant matter, adding water and ensuring proper aeration by regularly turning the mixture. Worms and fungi further break up the material. Aerobic bacteria manage the chemical process by converting the inputs into heat, carbon dioxide and ammonium. The ammonium is further converted by bacteria into plant-nourishing nitrites and nitrates through the process of nitrification.
In order to be compostable, a material must be made of organic matter and be capable of decay (it must be biodegradable, in essence). Many polymers and plastics have a poor ability to decay; as such are not considered organic material. Organic matter can also be defined as carbon based substances derived from living things (but can be extensions of this, e.g. items made from living things such as paper, cardboard, pasta and other food items made from plants.

Our Tea Packaging
Our teas are imported in small batches and stored in airtight, light proof containers. We only pack what we need weekly to ensure that every pack is as fresh as can be. Our smallest size (usually 100 grams for most teas) is available in our HR signature can, or a zip seal high barrier foil bag. Larger sizes (250 grams and 500 grams) come in zip seal high barrier foil bags only. As a good airtight and light proof container is the best option for storing teas, we always recommend buying a can for the first time and a bag when re-ordering. This way, you can always ensure the properties of your teas are well preserved during transportation and you will have a suitable can to store them in when they arrive!
